Myrtle SmigleyVENETA — A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at United Valley Methodist Church in Veneta for Myrtle Smigley of Veneta, who died Dec. 14 of Alzheimer’s disease. She was 85.She was born Oct. 4, 1925, to Willard and Mattie Kennedy Freeman. She married John Smigley on Oct. 25, 1945, in Owensboro, Ky. Her husband was a former longtime Veneta city councilman and mayor who died in 2003.She worked in sales at Meier and Frank.Survivors include a son, Tim of Eugene; three daughters, Nancy Alioto of Dallas, Texas, Patricia Garcia of Eugene and Melissa Hopkins of Woodbridge, Va.; a sister, Kelly Holland of Mound City, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A daughter, Alanna Bingham, died in 2007.Arrangements by Musgrove Fam-ily Mortuary of Eugene. Remembrances to Alzheimer’s Association, Cascade Coast chapter.
