Obituary of Benjamin "Alwin" Raymond Terry

TERRY: Benjamin "Alwin" Raymond Terry of Brandon passed away with family at his side on Saturday, October 23, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. Al was born on December 9, 1932 in Winnipeg. He spent his childhood with his parents Samuel and Bernice Terry and two brothers Robert and Gerald in St. Vital, Winnipeg. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1948 and sailed until 1955. He then began his apprenticeship and became a journeyman steamfitter with an international ticket. In December 1968, Al married Hughene Lefurgey and had two children, eventually settling down in Medicine Hat, AB and later welcoming a step-daughter with open arms. Al had a passion for golf and he shared this interest with his brother Gerald. Dad always hoped to one-day golf his age, a goal he proudly achieved! Al is survived by his wife, Hughie, daughter Michelle (Jim) Duncan, son Kevin (Sharlene) Terry, step-daughter Shannon (Bob) Doherty; brothers Robert (Margaret) Terry, Gerald (Clarice) Terry; grandchildren Devin, Derek, Ashtyn, Matt, Tristan and Tyrell as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend thanks to the Brandon Regional Health Centre and Dr. Benade for their excellent care and compassion. In accordance with Dad's wishes cremation has taken place, but no memorial service will be held. He simply wished to be remembered by those he loved and by those who loved him. Donations in his memory may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Cancer Care Project", 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3.
