Obituary of Stephanie Genevieve Schott

SCHOTT: Stephanie Genevieve (Stephie) was born September 23, 1913 in Brandon, the younger of two children of Samuel and Sophia Burneski. She attended school in Brandon where she met her husband Al who she married in Edmonton in 1940. She began her career as an administrative secretary at Eaton's but left during WWII to move to Halifax with the Air Force to be closer to her husband who was stationed there. On her return, she took time out to raise her family before going back to work at Brandon Motor Vehicle Licensing. She eventually joined her husband in the family business, Clement Travel, where she excelled working with people. She truly enjoyed the perks of the business, traveling extensively throughout the world. She retired from the business to help raise her grandchildren and spent a great deal of time with them in both Winnipeg and Columbus, Ohio. She returned to Brandon and lived with Gary until moving into Central Park Lodge in 2001 where many of the staff became her extended family. She was a longtime member and past president of the IODE. Music was one of her passions and she was instrumental in forming the Brandon Philharmonic Choir with her good friend, Dr. Lorne Watson. She enjoyed many summers with family and friends at the family cabin at Clear Lake. She passed away peacefully at her home at Valleyview Care Centre (CPL) with Gary and Bev at her side. Stephie is survived by her children Gary (Bev) of Brandon, Gail (Bruce) Reid of Creston, B.C., Debbie Patterson of Whitby, ON, grandchildren Sandy Hovey, Jodi (Jerry) Hines, Lisa, Kevin and Brittaney Burr, Kieran Patterson, Jon Slack, Daniel (Shelley) Slack, great grandchildren Ben and Cory Hines and Nicholas Slack. She was predeceased by her husband Al in 1972, brother Joey in 1923 and by her parents. There will be a graveside celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.
