Obituary of Dorothy Walton

WALTON: Dorothy Kathleen Brinell passed away at her residence, Fairview Home, on August 26, 2010 with her family at her side. Dorothy was born January 24, 1919 in Winnipeg, MB, to Christina and William Freeman. Dorothy was predeceased by her two sisters, Nellie and Mary. She grew up in the North End of Winnipeg and told many stories of the Dirty Thirties and the War Years. Jobs were few then, but she was lucky and secured employment at the Unemployment Insurance Commission where she worked for many years as a Section Head. In October 1953 she married Stuart Walton and moved to his farm at Oak Lake, MB. The city girl turning farmer's wife made for some great stories and lots of laughs. Their only daughter Peggy Lynn was born in 1957. Together her and Stuart shared their hobby of Golden Retrievers and spent many hours training and travelling with their Prairie Dawn Kennel show dogs. Dorothy returned to the work force in the early 1970's first as secretary at the Oak Lake School and then later as secretary for the Oak Lake United Church. She and Stuart retired to their new home in Oak Lake that he built in 1976, and then moved to Brandon in 2000, first living in The Sheridan and then she moved to Riverheights Terrace. Dorothy joined Stuart in Fairview Home in September 2008, and he predeceased her in December 2008. Dorothy was an accomplished knitter and avid reader until her eyesight started failing. Dorothy leaves to lovingly cherish her memory, her daughter Peggy Percival (Brian Jamieson), and her granddaughters Ashley McKerchar (Jason) and Jody Percival, and their father Gordon Percival and special friend Shirley Clubb. A memorial service was held at Johnston Cemetery on September 1st with Rev. Craig Miller officiating. The family would like to thank the 5th floor and support staff at Fairview for their excellent care and friendship. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
