Obituary of Dorothy (Dot) Meagher

MEAGHER: Dorothy (Dot) Meagher passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on Sunday, August 8, 2010 with family at her side. She was born in the R.M. of Cornwallis on January 18, 1924, the sixth child of eight children of William and Margaret Richardson. She married Alex Meagher on March 28, 1951. Alex predeceased her in December of 1989. Although Dot and Alex had no children, their "family" consisted of many nieces and nephews who thought of them as a very special aunt and uncle. In addition to her husband and parents, Dot was predeceased by her brothers, Tom, George, Bob and Jack and her sister, Mary. She is survived by her sisters Edie Hendricks (Winnipeg) and Irene Brown, as well as five sisters-in-law, Katie Meagher and Beryl Meagher, Lorraine Richardson, Fern Richardson and Vera Richardson. Dot enjoyed curling, lawn bowling, playing cards and bingo, and her coffee get-togethers. She will be remembered as a kind and caring sister, aunt and friend. The Funeral Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Laird Russell Yearwood of Central United Church officiating. A private family graveside service will take place at the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Richardson, Bob Richardson, Ron Richardson, Terry Brown, Murray Brown and Alex Brown. Donations in memory of Dot to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8, would be appreciated.
