Obituary of Emilienne (Emily) Potvin
POTVIN: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emilienne (Emily) Potvin on February 27, 2010. Mom was born September 8, 1930 to Leon and Clara Mangin and married Norbert Potvin on October 5, 1948 in Bruxelles. They farmed in the Margaret area for 15 years. They sold their farm in 1963 and purchased another just north of Boissevain and worked this land for 11 years. In 1974 they sold the farm and made their home in Brandon. Mom always worked hard and kept herself very busy. She enjoyed looking after her yard, her flowers and grew a garden every year. Mom loved to do puzzles, was an avid card player, liked to cook (way too much) and she especially liked going to dances and listening to old time music. Her idle hours, of which there were few, she volunteered to knit baby sets for the Brandon Hospital. She was an active member of the Church and CWL as well as the Red Hat Ladies. She loved spending time with her friends whenever they got together and was always ready to help out whenever she could. She had a great sense of humour and got a real kick out of playing practical jokes on her random victims. She was well liked by all who knew her.
Family was very important to her and she always looked forward to visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom and Dad had seven children. Mom was predeceased by Dad in 1997 and their eldest infant daughter in 1950, her sisters Lorette and Denise, brother-in-law Hector Robidoux, and sister-in-law Yvette Mangin. She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters: Lorraine Williams (John), Diane Dougall (Terry) and four sons, Roger (Brenda), Denis (Diane), Gerald (Jocelyne), Paul (Lynn), 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Dorothee (Albert Gagnon), her brother Laurent Mangin and her brother-in-law Lucien Baete. Also left to mourn her loss are in-laws Antonio and Alice Potvin, Andre Gagnon, Cecile Dion, Celine Meisner, Laurette Potvin and Yvonne Potvin. She was a kind and generous woman who gave much love to this world and we will always cherish her memory.
Her funeral was held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Brandon. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Emilienne may be made to Westman Hospice Association, M-435 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7A 6S2 or to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care," 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3.
She will be sadly missed but forever in our hearts.
