She grew up with nine brothers and sisters and attended school at Bicton Heath. She married Steve Smendziuk and they farmed near Fishing River, Manitoba. They had four children. Later on in life she loved when her grandchildren would spend holidays on the farm. Her grandchildren said Nana made the best chicken soup in the world with her home made noodles. Nana had eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She loved her gardening and growing flowers. Helen moved to Brandon in 1986 and resided at Princess Towers. She slowly adjusted to city life and did a lot of volunteer work. She was a volunteer at Prairie Oasis helping in the kitchen with Meals on Wheels. She participated in social events and Senior bus trips to Rainbow Stage productions, the horse races at Assiniboia Downs and different casinos. She attended St. Augustine's Church and was a member of the Catholic Women's League, volunteering her services at different events in the church. Her hobbies were knitting mittens and scarves for needy children, crocheting doilies, tablecloths, afghans and a bedspread for her daughter's wedding. Her joy in life were things well done, from early morn till set of sun. We loved her so But God loved her best, so He took her home with Him to rest.
