Obituary of Martha Baker
Martha BakerA memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the First Congregational Church in Eugene for Martha Thorsland Baker of Eugene, who died Feb. 12 of ovarian cancer. She was 86.She was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Seattle to Delmont and Thelma Thorsland. She married Herbert Baker on June 21, 1947, in Eugene.She graduated from University High School in Eugene in 1943. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Oregon in 1947.During her college years, she worked as a secretary to the Eugene city manager. She later worked in retail sales at Chase Flowers & Gifts, Kaufman’s, Lipman’s and Frederick & Nelson in Eugene.Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Ann Mack of Eugene and Mary Maybee of Seattle; two sons, David and Mark, both of Eugene; and five grandchildren.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the UO Foundation for the Martha Thorsland Baker Endowment for UO Libraries’ Special Collections or to the First Congregational Church.
