Obituary of Charles Waite

HARRISBURG — A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Life Bible Church in Harrisburg for Charles Rene Waite of Harrisburg, who died Feb. 10 of complications from heart disease. He was 80.He was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Utica, Mont., to Charles and Eileen Rooney Waite. He married Margaret Helgerson on March 14, 1957, in Portland.He graduated from Hobson (Mont.) High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was aboard the USS Sarsi when it was sunk by a mine, and he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He later was a handyman and maintenance supervisor for multiple local companies.Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen McMillen of Sweet Home; two sons, Philip of Monmouth and Darin of Corvallis; four brothers, Walter of Conrad, Mont., Darcy and Doni, both of Lewistown, Mont., and Bob of Moore, Mont.; two sisters, Heather Fellows of Choteau, Mont., and Gloria Miller of Lewistown, Mont.; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A daughter, Khris Unger, died in 2001.A reception at Life Bible Church will follow the memorial service. Private family inurnment will be near Utica, Mont.Arrangements by Murphy Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City. Remembrances to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.
