Obituary of Ada Larsen

Ada Helene Larsen Passed away surrounded by family on January 31, 2020 at the age of 94 Ada Helene Larsen was born January 25, 1926 to Fred and Agnes Ohlsen in Eugene Oregon. Ada was delivered at her grandparents’ home, by her grandmother. Her father was a direct descendent of Martin Luther, on his mother’s side (Helen Linneman). Her grandfather, Daniel Peter Ohlsen, was one of the founding members of Bethesda Lutheran Church. Ada was raised on a poultry farm in the Danebo area. Her life was centered around family and Bethesda Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married. As a lifetime member she was active in Ladies Circle, Vacation Bible School, Clothes Closet, Quilting, and other activities showing her true Christian compassion to others. Ada attended Danebo Elementary School and graduated from Eugene High school. After graduation she was employed as a bookkeeper at Eugene Farmer’s Coop. Ada met James during their childhood, attending Danebo Elementary, Eugene High School and Bethesda Lutheran Church. They were confirmed together and active in Luther League. She married James on April 10, 1946. As a stay-at-home mom, Ada was blessed with four children, providing a loving and caring Christian home. When the children were all in school she returned to work as a cook in the Eugene School District for 25 plus years. Ada adored her children, grandchildren and great-great-grandsons; spending time celebrating and making holidays and birthdays special for all of them. She was a fantastic baker and always had a full cookie jar. She became a master quilter in her late sixties. In the next ten years, she made sixteen beautiful hand-pieced quilts for each of her grandchildren, a treasure to be cherished for years to come. Ada loved the beauty of God’s earth. Going on Sunday drives, picnics, hikes, and camping with family and friends gave her much joy. Everyone who met Ada always felt her love, compassion and kindness, including those who helped care for her in the last days of her life on earth. She was preceded in death by her husband, James in 1996; parents Fred (1979) and Agnes (1987) Ohlsen and sisters: Lois Aagaard (1959) and Grace Hansen (2010). Ada is lovingly survived by her children; Ed (Kathy) of Florence; Dan (Bobbie) of Springfield; Rick (Sue) of LaPine; and Gloria (Dennis) Maloney of Crystal Lake, IL; her brother, Duane (Lillian) Ohlsen; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandsons, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
