Obituary of Yvette Reita Mitchell

MITCHELL: Yvette Reita (July 1918 – July 2013). It is with sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Yvette Reita Mitchell (née Lemire) who passed away at Fairview Home in Brandon, Manitoba on July 25, 2013. She was born July 2, 1918 in Coderre, Saskatchewan to Irénée and Almeda (née Lemire) Lemire. She was predeceased by her husband Charles on July 25, 1991 and an infant daughter, Shirley Delores. She is survived by daughter, Irene (Cecil) Kennedy, son Reginald (Carolyn), and daughter Elaine (Martin) Kilfoyle; five grandchildren: David , Andrew (Sherri), Katrina, Korrina (Marc) and Scott (Samantha); and eight great-grandchildren: Chantelle , Nathan , Colin, Faith, Alexandre, Abigayle, Ava and Dakota; her nieces Barbara Wonitoway and Betty Preteau; and her cousin Hermine Syrenne. As an only child growing up on a prairie farm she discovered the joys of friendships and family. Yvette spoke French only when she started school and had to learn English. She and Charles married on July 2, 1938, and lived in Shoal Lake, Justice and Brandon. She began working at Fairview Home for 23 years including positions of Assistant Matron and Activities Director. She had a genuine interest in others offering a sympathetic shoulder, a listening ear, and words of encouragement. She had various interests including a love for traveling home and abroad, sewing, quilting (as we all have beautiful quilts made by her loving hands), bowling, curling and the love of music and the outdoors. She loved having people around her and gave a helping hand wherever it was required, especially during the 25 years she lived in Winnipeg House. Her faith in the Lord was strong and important and was active in St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church and later joined St. Augustine parish. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Friday, August 9th, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Kevin Smith as Celebrant. Fellowship and refreshments to follow. Interment following at Sparling Cemetery. The family would like to thank The Fairview Home Third Floor Staff for the comfort and support given to Yvette during her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Yvette Mitchell to the Fairview Foundation, 1351-13th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4S6 or a charity of your choice.
