Obituary of Robert Furrer

Robert Daniel Furrer, 52, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011, in Akron, Ohio. He was born August 10, 1958, in Portland, Oregon, to Dr. Robert George and Barbara Jean (Vacca) Furrer. Bob graduated from Marist High School in Eugene, OR, Lane Community College, Flight Technology Program, also in Eugene, and St. Martins College in Lacey, WA. Bob had a lifelong passion for flying and served as a pilot for Continental Airlines for 27 years, the last several years of his career as a B777 Captain. He is survived by his beloved wife Donna; loving children Nathan Emil, Michelle Stephanie and Renee Lynne; dear step-father of Thomas J. (Maria) Wilgus, Kate M. (Bradley) Harrington and Adam W. Wilgus; devoted son of Barbara (Vacca) Furrer; dear PepPep of Katelyn Harrington; loving brother of Kathy (Bill) Medford, Pam Furrer, Tom (Teresa) Furrer and Julie (Shawn) Waters and Lisa, the mother of Nathan, Stephen, Michelle, and Renee. Bob is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Robert G. Furrer and his beloved son, Stephen Anthony Furrer. Viewing will be Sunday, April 10, 2011, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Musgrove Family Mortuary and Monday, April 11, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1201 Satre St., Eugene, OR. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Eugene. Bob's friend and classmate Fr. John Kerns will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Eugene. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dr. Robert G. Furrer Scholarship Fund, c/o Marist High School, 1900 Kingsley Rd., Eugene, OR 97401, or Lane Aviation Foundation, 28715 Airport Road, Eugene, OR 97402. Arrangements are being handled by Musgrove Family Mortuary.
