Obituary of Maria Heuchert

HEUCHERT: Maria Heuchert (née Moritz): It is with great sadness, the family announces the sudden death of Maria Heuchert, beloved wife of Georg, on February 7, 2013. Mourning her loss are her husband Georg, sons Ralph (Kareen) of Brandon and Philip (Katherine) of Leduc, Alberta; grandchildren Amelia and Evan Heuchert of Edmonton, Nolan Heuchert of Brandon, Ian Vicker (Amberlee) and family of Leduc, Alberta; brother Joe Moritz (Helmi) of Brandon and sister Herta Gudauskas (Peter) of Winnipeg; brothers-in-law Philip (Edith) Heuchert and Putzi Heuchert of Germany; sisters-in-law Erika Ehmann of Salmon Arm, B.C., Ushie Heuchert of Winnipeg, Ellie Heuchert of Abbotsford, B.C., as well as many nieces and nephews. Maria was born and educated in the town of Bingola in the former Yugoslavia. During the war, she and her family spent many lean and difficult years as refugees in Austria before immigrating to Alberta, Canada in 1953. It was on this fateful trans-Atlantic journey that she would meet her future husband, Georg. After a year, during a hard stint working in the sugar beet fields of Alberta, she would join Georg in Winnipeg, where they married and their two sons were born, before moving to Brandon and briefly, Hamburg, Germany, and finally making their home in the natural beauty of the Brandon Hills. Here, Maria could nurture her passion for gardening and enjoy the wildlife on their property. With her husband and sons, she also enjoyed the many camping and fishing trips throughout Manitoba, as well as at their property in Salmon Arm, B.C. with its orchards and magnificent views. Maria was creative and gifted in so many ways, whether in sewing, needlework, cooking or entertaining. Her greatest joys were her husband, sons and grandchildren, but she also cherished the company of her many friends and family. We will remember her for her generosity, loving nature and good humour. Her passing will leave a deep void in our lives and she will be sadly missed by all. A service to celebrate Maria's life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on February 14, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Jason Zinko officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Maria may be made to a charity of one's choice.
