Obituary of Velma Rose Pavlin
PAVLIN: Velma Rose Pavlin, daughter of Michael and Anne Kolesar, was born on February 14, 1929 in the Rosedale Municipality. She attended Clarksville School, Neepawa Collegiate and the Manitoba Normal School in 1947-48. Having taught four years in rural Manitoba, she went to Brandon to teach at Alexandra School in January 1953. In 1958-59 on exchange in Sacramento, California, returning to Earl Haig and then to Green Acres School in 1981. In 1961, she married George Pavlin, both retired in 1984 from teaching. Both were avid travellers, spending winters in California and summers at the cottage at Clear Lake. Numerous trips included Hawaii, Portugal, Cuba, and cruises to Russia, the Mediterranean, Greek Islands, around the South American Continents and to Western Europe. George passed away on June 28, 2004. Since then, Velma traveled extensively to Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, Eastern Europe and China. Her hobbies included reading, painting, tending her rose garden and playing bridge. Velma is survived by one sister Alice Moger (Bill), and numerous nieces and nephews: Barbara Caumartin, David McLeod, Kenneth Kolesar, Noreen Kolesar, Rob Kolesar and Rick Kolesar. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on January 30, 2013. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Velma may be made to a charity of choice.
