Obituary of Isabel Van Damme

VAN DAMME: Isabel (née Wood). It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma on January 2nd, 2013 at Evergreen Place in Boissevain. Mom was born May 4th, 1924 at Cypress River, MB where she spent most of her teen years at home with her parents and six brothers. Mom married dad on October 29th, 1945 and spent 57 years together. They farmed at Greenway and Baldur then ran a family business in Rathwell and Shoal Lake. After moving to Brandon, mom worked as a nurse's aide at Hillcrest Place and later spent many years working at Peters Agencies. Mom enjoyed playing the piano and playing cards with family and friends. She leaves her daughter Myrna, sons Myles (Bernice), Alvin (Susan), grandchildren Brad, Michael (Patsy), Barry (Jennifer), Sheri, Brent (Cheryl), Rosalyn, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Surviving are mom's brothers Lawrence (Margaret), Leo (Mona), sisters-in-law Jessie and Imelda. Mom was predeceased by her husband Rene, parents John and Irene Wood, brothers Alvin, Albert (Margaret), Jerry, Willijohn and Aimie. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Rosary will start at 10:15 a.m. with Mass commencing at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Kevin Smith as Celebrant. A private family interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Isabel may be made to a charity of choice.
