Obituary of Faye Elaine Driedger
DRIEDGER: Faye Elaine Driedger (née Fleury) of Brandon, beloved wife of Jake and dear mother of Brent and Brenda (Dan) Billings, passed away suddenly at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at the age of 70 years. Mom was born May 22, 1942 in Welby, Saskatchewan. She attended school in Crandall and Beulah, MB. She met the love of her life, Jake, in 1960 in Birtle, MB and they were married on July 14, 1962. They spent their early married life in Brandon and Roblin where their twins were born. The family moved to Winnipeg where Mom successfully completed her Nurses Aid training. She cared for the geriatric residents of the Golden Door Personal Care Home in Winnipeg and then moved on to work for Home Care. Later in life, Mom and Dad moved to Brandon to be closer to family and she continued her work with Home Care. As a young adult, she played softball with the Birtle Ladies Softball Club and was very much involved in Archery when our family lived in Snow Lake. She was also a member of the 5 Pin Bowling Association. Her greatest joy was her family and her grandchildren had a special place in her heart. Grandma could be found front and center at countless Christmas concerts and school functions, camera in hand. Mom loved spending time at Killarney Lake where she spent many a night sitting around the campfire with her many good friends. She also enjoyed her membership at the Killarney golf course where she became acquainted with the local scenery while searching for her lost golf balls. She was an especially gifted bowler, a talent she crafted over 38 years. She was an accomplished competitor, participating in three National Tournaments. Many lifetime friends and memories were made at the lanes. Faye is lovingly remembered by her husband Jake of 50 years, children Brent and Brenda (Dan) Billings of Brandon, grandchildren Curtis Cameron, Ryan Cameron and Danielle Billings, brothers Donald Fleury of St. Lazare, Albert (Jan) Fleury of Birtle, sister Jean (Murray) Pennelton of Pentiction, BC and sisters-in-law Ida and Gloria Fleury, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Faye was predeceased by her parents Fred and Ruby (Mockford) Fleury, sisters Aleta (Albert) Timbrell, Dolerene (Bert) Ducharme, Dorothy Spencer, Thelma (Raymond) Dupont, and her brothers Merrick Fleury, Stanley (Lucy) Fleury and Raymond Fleury. A service to celebrate Faye's life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Monday, October 15, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Shannon McCarthy of Central United Church officiating. Honourary Pallbearers were Curtis Cameron, Ryan Cameron, Danielle Billings, and Brent Driedger.
