Obituary of James Parmenter

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home for James D. Parmenter of Springfield, who died April 17 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 71.He was born April 25, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Charles and Gladys Price Parmenter. He married Cheryl Peterson on March 16, 1991, in Springfield.He attended Springfield High School. He served in the Army from December 1961 to October 1963. He was a self-employed building and painting contractor until his retirement in 1993.Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Lorri Smith of Junction City, Julie Keeney of Creswell, Linda Bender of Springfield, Mary Bowdey of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Joan Hamilton of Boston; a son, Daron of Eugene; three brothers, Larry of Beaverton, Harold of Springfield and Charles of Brookings; two sisters, Maxine Burns and Kathleen DeMoss, both of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.Inurnment will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens.
