Obituary of Joy Gallaway
GALLAWAY: Joy Gallaway (née Graham) passed away peacefully in Brandon on Friday, July 27, 2012. Joy will be remembered by her children, Sharon Bulloch (Bev) of Parksville, BC, Bill Gallaway (Vivian Thorgeirson) and Graham Gallaway of Brandon. Also surviving are grandchildren Randy Bulloch of Calgary, AB, John Lawson, Robyn Lawson (Rob) of Whitehorse, YT and Marshall and Clayton Gallaway of Brandon. Joy has one great-grandchild, Emma Bulloch of Calgary, brother-in-law Nick Chrest and son-in-law Claude Jones of Brandon. Joy was predeceased by parents Jack and Julie Graham, husband Clarence Gallaway and daughter Dawn Lawson.
Joy was born in Winnipeg on October 11, 1922. She was an only child and spent much of her time absorbed in books. She met Clare Gallaway when her family moved to St. James when she was a teenager. They were married 1940. They were expecting their first child when Clare went off to WWII. After the war, Clare built the family home at 244 Chalfont Road. Joy resided there until 1979. In her younger years, Joy taught swimming and painting classes and raised cocker spaniels. She also loved to play the piano and sing. In 1991, Joy moved to Brandon to be closer to her family. She spent the last 10 years at Fairview Nursing Home in Brandon. The family would like to thank the Fairview staff for their wonderful care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, with a time of remembrance immediately following at The Victoria Inn, 1808 Wellington Avenue, Winnipeg.
