Obituary of Jean Loewen

LOEWEN: Jean (née Steele) passed away at her residence, Fairview Home, on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the age of 102 years. Jean was born at Holmfield, Manitoba on May 3, 1909. She was predeceased by her husband, Jake in 1967, her parents, sisters Marjorie and Bernice, and brothers William and Allan. Jean worked for the Manitoba Telephone Company for 38 years at Cartwright and Wawanesa. She had a Life Membership in the Telephone Pioneers of Manitoba, she was a Charter member of Hope Rebekah Lodge #28, and a longtime member of the UCW, Red Cross and Seniors for Seniors. She is survived by her brother Lloyd (Lillian) of Sparks, Nevada, nephew Dale Watts, Winnipeg, nieces Sharon Nickle, Toronto, Sandra Phillips, Keremeos, BC and several cousins. Her step children: Don (Renate), Montreal, Gordon (Pat), Vancouver, Glen (Jean), Medicine Hat, Edith (Eric), Ottawa and Mildred, Morris, MB. We would like to particularly express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at Fairview Home. They did an outstanding job of caring for Jean with compassion and dignity during her stay there over the past two years. Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at the Wawanesa Cemetery.
