Obituary of Thelma Coombs

Thelma was born in Sumner, Washington to Anna and Frank Grimes, and attended Raymond High School before moving to a remote fishing village in Shaktoolik, Alaska with her husband. She moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1958 with her daughter, Mariann, and lived with her sister, Gladys Rose, before remarrying in 1963 to Frank Coombs. She assisted Frank with his business, All American Homes, and in 1976 she received her Medical Assistant Degree from Lane Community College and spent many gratifying years working for physicians in the Eugene Area. She was an active member and volunteer of Peace Presbyterian Church and donated food to several organizations in the area to help those less fortunate. She had beautiful gardens at her home in Santa Clara and propagated a wide variety of African violets. Thelma loved children and animals of all kinds. Her cat, Babe, will reside with her daughter, Mariann, in her country home with various other animals. Thelma died of cancer and is survived by her daughter, Mariann Deering of Sherwood; grandson and granddaughter, Dave Coombs and Rae Ann; great-grandsons Teddy & Tyler Coombs; sister, Gladys Rose of Eugene; brother, Kenny Grimes of Seattle; niece and nephew, Jill and David Miller; great-niece & nephew, Erica and Nick Miller and several other nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Peace Presbyterian Church, 3060 River Road, Eugene, on April 30, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Thelma asked that remembrances be made in her name to Greenhill Humane Society, www.green-hill.org .
