Obituary of Elizabeth Van Deveire

VAN DEVEIRE: The family of Elizabeth Van Deveire are sad to announce her sudden passing at Valleyview Care Centre, on December 7, 2011. Elizabeth was born in Marshall, Minnesota, USA on April 1st, 1915. Her parents, Peter and Alma Van Deveire came from Belgium in 1912. At her age of eight, the family moved to Deloraine, MB in 1923. Elizabeth attended Grove School. She worked for 30 years in Catholic Rectories as a housekeeper in Deloraine, Winnipeg, Portage as well as Montreal. There, she stayed in the nurse's residence of St. Mary's Hospital for Sisters of the Province. In 1950, Elizabeth returned to Brandon, MB to work at St. Augustine's Rectory until her retirement. Elizabeth was a member of the Catholic Women's League for 55 years. She retired in 2005 from the League. She retired in 1989 as the housekeeper at St. Augustine's Rectory. Elizabeth spent many years enjoying the great work she accomplished and the places it took her too. She was a strong, devoted Catholic and she sponsored three Catholic Priests in Ecuador. Throughout her years, she was gifted with many trades, baking her delicious cakes, a seamstress; she could sew or patch any garment that needed to be fixed. She could repair anything that was broken, by gluing or repainting it until it looked brand new. Many friends would take their mending to her, as well as family members. Elizabeth hurt her one leg when she was very young. She coped with every day challenges with pride and dignity, after several operations. Right up to her untimely passing, Elizabeth was a very determined and strong woman. Her strong Catholic faith carried her through any challenges she had to face. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, brothers Joe, Archie, Raimon, sister Alice Macialek, brother-in-law John Macialek, sister-in-law Maria Louise Van Deveire and nephew, Peter Van Deveire. She is survived by her oldest sister Louise Noé, brother Leon Van Deveire, his wife Vivian, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on December 10, 2011. Interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery.
