Obituary of Garth Daniel Ramsay

Garth Daniel Ramsay of Brandon, passed away at the Valleyview Care Centre on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the age of 83 years. Garth was born March 26, 1928 in Waskada, MB. He grew up in Waskada, farming with his family. He married the love of his life, Kathleen Dromun, on April 22, 1950. They farmed together and had one daughter, Theresa. When they were in their 40's, they semi-retired by renting their farmland and spending the winters primarily in Yuma, Arizona. They moved off the farm to Killarney in 1991, as Garth's health was slowly deteriorating. Papa loved to watch his ballgames, People's Court and even The Price is Right with his grandchildren, not that he would admit it. Papa's most expensive hobby was building and sometimes crashing R.C. planes. It was always a community event when a new plane went up. Garth is survived by his daughter, Theresa Ramsay, grandchildren Val (Sandy) Caldwell, Sonya (Jason) Bayliss, Colleen (Darryl) Carter, Darcy Zarn and Yvonne Zarn. He is also survived by great-grandchildren James and Morgan Caldwell and Jackie and Aaron Bayliss. He was predeceased by his wife, Kay on August 24, 2001, and his parents Clair and Carmen Ramsay. A graveside service will be held at the Waskada Cemetery on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with luncheon to follow at the Waskada Legion. Urnbearers will be James Caldwell and Aaron Bayliss. Donations in memory of Garth may be made to Tri-Lake Health Centre, "Palliative Care", Box 5000, Killarney, MB, R0K 1G0 or Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 4B-457-9th Street, Brandon, Mb, R7A 1K2.
