Obituary of Alice Felawka

FELAWKA: Alice Felawka (née Stasiuk), aged 87 years, of Brandon, MB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. She leaves to mourn, her son Dr. Larry Felawka of Vancouver, B.C., her daughter Virginia and son-in-law Barry Wolfe of Winnipeg, MB, her grandson Darren of Winnipeg, MB, and her granddaughter Jillian and husband David Cannon of Ottawa, ON. She is survived by her brothers Joe Stasiuk and sister-in-law Elvena of Yorkton, SK and William Stasiuk of Russell, MB. Alice was predeceased by her devoted husband Tom, her brother Mike Stasiuk, sister Ann Temchuk, brother-in-law Mike Temchuk and sister-in-law Alma Stasiuk. Alice was born in Glen Elder, SK on March 24, 1924. She and Tom were married on October 29, 1944 and farmed together near Stenen, SK for several years. In 1954, the family moved to Brandon. Alice was devoted to family and church, having been a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church since their arrival in Brandon. She was a long time active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, at one time serving as its President. In her 50's, Alice took on part-time employment at the former Brandon Mental Health Centre, now part of the Assiniboine Community College campus. She retired in 1983, ending her career as a supervisor in the housekeeping department. Due to chronic ill health, Alice's last years were spent as a resident of the Dinsdale Personal Care Home. The family would like to thank the staff who provided care and comfort to Mom on a daily basis over the years. We also send a special thank you to those who took the time to visit with Alice, often bringing special treats and news of the day. These visits were truly cherished and appreciated. Prayers will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue, on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk officiating, assisted by Stella Fedeniuk. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice, in Alice's memory.
