Obituary of Marjorie Martinook
MARTINOOK: Marjorie (neé Sopchuk), widow of the late Paul Martinook, passed away on June 28, 2011 at Valleyview Care Centre. Marjorie was born on January 17, 1917 in Brandon to parents Peter and Mary Sopchuk. She was the second oldest in a family of nine. In 1930, the Sopchuk family moved onto a farm west of Brandon. Marjorie completed her education at Roseland School and moved back to Brandon where she worked until her marriage to Paul on June 17, 1944. Their daughter, Margaret Anne, was born in 1945. Paul and Marjorie farmed in the Whitehead municipality until his passing on August 6, 1970. Marjorie remained on the farm and in 1986, she moved into Brandon. Family was very important to Marjorie. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, sewing, crocheting and knitting for her two granddaughters, as well as a good game of bingo. In June 2009, Marjorie moved into personal care and resided there until her passing. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, three brothers and four sisters. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Margaret, son-in-law (Ray Navid) and two granddaughters, Heather and Erin. She is also survived by her brother Walter (Mannia) of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service was held at Brockie Donovan on July 7, 2011. Officiating the service was Mr. Lawrence McInnes and pallbearers included: Richard Martinook, Ken Martinook, Jay Martinook, Jym Hominick, Gordon Hansen and Ken Black. Private family interment was held at Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Marjorie can be made to a charity of your choice.
