Obituary of William Korenicki

KORENICKI: William Korenicki of Brandon, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 87 years. William was born in Stare-Solo, Ukraine. In 1941, he left his home and made his way to Germany, on route to Canada, where his auntie was living. While in Germany, William worked for some local farmers and that was where he met his soon to be wife. In 1949, William, along with his wife and first born son, boarded a ship and immigrated to Canada. Landing in Quebec, they then made the train trip to Brandon, where they started and built their life. William began work with Anglo/BA Oil Company and stayed with them for 19 years. After the company closed, William went on to work for Nexen (formerly Dryden Chemicals) and remained there for another 19 years, he then retired in 1989. William lost his wife, Gretel in 1995. The loss was devastating for him, however, he went on with the help of many, many friends. In 2001, he met Julia Moreau and they soon became a couple and remained together until his death. Prayers were held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, on Friday January 28, 2011. Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue, on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk officiating, and Stella Fedeniuk as Cantor. Interment will be held at Brandon Cemetery.
