In 1945, he started work with the Canadian Pacific Railway and retired in 1986, after 41 years. Following retirement, Joe enjoyed travelling with Doreen, tending to his vegetable garden and woodworking in his garage. However, perhaps his most loved activity was attending the many large family gatherings held throughout the year, when he could spend time playing cards, eating and enjoying a beverage with his family. A service of remembrance was held to honor Joe's memory at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, on Wednesday, January 19, 2011. The family wishes to thank everyone who sent cards, flowers, food and their caring thoughts. Donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Brandon Regional Heath Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care", 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
