Obituary of Reginald Thomas Heal

HEAL: Reginald Thomas Heal of Brandon, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the age of 62 years. Reg was born on December 9, 1948 in Brandon, where he lived all his life. He graduated from Neelin High School, and then furthered his education by taking drafting at Assiniboine Community College. Reg then found employment with Ian Brown Construction as a draftperson. As a young man, Reg loved to fish, which he did as often as could with his buddies – Elmer, Jim, and Bob. He was a very creative person and had a promising future, until he became ill. Reg was an avid bowler at one time in his life and even enjoyed traveling to bowling tournaments. He was an active member of the YMCA for many years and he also enjoyed the challenges of a friendly chess game. Reg loved to sing and participated in the "Singing Christmas Tree" at Calvary Temple. He sponsored children through World Vision for many years, and he donated to many charities over the years. Reg always enjoyed going for a walk and in particular, he enjoyed his visits with nature. He especially looked forward to outings at the Discovery Centre. Reg also got a "kick" out of shopping with his C.M.H.A. workers. He was predeceased by his parents, Annabelle (née Miller) in 1983 and John Reginald in 2003. Reg leaves to cherish his memory, a sister Mary and her husband Ken Schiedel of Brandon. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. The family would like to thank the paramedics and the emergency staff at the BRHC who tried to save our brother. Thank you also to all of Reg's caseworkers over the years and all the staff at C.M.H.A. who worked with Reg, especially Kathy, Renee, Alf, Jordan, Brian, Glenn, and Nina. A Service of Remembrance was held to honor Reg's life at Brockie Donovan Chapel, on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Reg may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (Westman Office) 23- 12th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4L6.
