Obituary of Anna Marjorie Johnson
JOHNSON: Anna Marjorie. Peacefully on October 2, 2010, Marjorie Johnson passed away in her home At Mission Villas in Kelowna, British Columbia. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Kathy Johnson (Jeff Lawson), sons David (Lori) Johnson and Tom (Evelyn) Johnson and grandchildren Tyler, Kyle, Mattie, Sarah, Piper, Christopher, Nicholas, Turner, Madison, daughter-in-law Lea Johnson and many friends and relatives.
Marjorie was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to Hazel and David Lyon. After obtaining her RN designation in Portage and OR surgery certification in Montreal, Marjorie moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba, to be the Head Nurse at the mining hospital. It was in Flin Flon where she met her husband, Orlie Johnson. As Orlie and Marjorie started their family, Marjorie reduced her work hours and eventually stayed home full-time to raise her 3 children and support her husband's growing career. Orlie's career took Marjorie to several communities including Kenora, Fort William, Winnipeg, Neepawa, Rivers, Brandon and Edmonton. To celebrate their retirement in 1990, Marjorie and Orlie moved to Summerland, BC to enjoy a warmer climate and a longer golf season. The love of family and her cottage at Kerr's Lake brought Marjorie and Orlie back to Manitoba. It was in Minnedosa that Marjorie enjoyed her last years with Orlie. Following Orlie's passing, Marjorie moved to Kelowna to be closer to family.
Marjorie's husband, children and grandchildren were the most important things in her life. Her love and support of her family was unconditional.
Kerr's Lake was Marjorie's favourite place. It was her stable home for over 35 years; the place she returned every summer. At the lake, she enjoyed her long-time "lake" friends as they played bocchi, enjoyed walks, the odd golf game, after dinner drinks and cards at night. She also enjoyed the humming birds, loons and nibbles! Marjorie's blunt and unapologetic personality is a characteristic we will remember fondly.
Mom, it has been through your unconditional love and commitment that we are the strong individuals we are today. We can only hope that we are the devoted parents to our children that you were to us. We love you and will miss you.
A Celebration Lunch for Marjorie will occur on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Minnedosa Legion with Rev. Garry MacDowall officiating.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be sent to the Minnedosa Community Childcare Cooperative, Box 1108, Minnedosa, MB, R0J 1E0.
