Obituary of Barbara B. Sefton
SEFTON: Barbara Sefton passed away peacefully on September 9, 2010 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with her family at her side. Barbara was born in Brandon on March 6, 1932 to William and Muriel Bain, a younger sister to Beth and Marion.
Barb grew up in Brandon, spending many summers in the Rounthwaite area and at Clear Lake. She completed high school and business college in Brandon. She met Gordon when she was 15 and they married four years later on August 18, 1951.
Barb was a stay-at-home mom for her four children and then later worked at the Brandon Sun, a nursery school, as an Educational Assistant at George Fitton school and the Brandon Clinic.
She was actively involved at Knox United Church, was a volunteer for Brandon Community Options, the Diabetes Association, Meadows school and at both the Winter and Summer Canada Games in Brandon. She and Gordon also attended Brandon Wheat Kings hockey games for over 50 years.
Gordon and Barbara lived for a few years at Sandy Lake enjoying many happy moments with family and friends. Barb returned to Brandon when Gordon passed away in 2001.
Despite deteriorating health over the past few years, Barb maintained a positive and upbeat outlook. In June of this year Barb moved to Victoria Landing and enjoyed re-connecting with friends there.
Barb was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, sister Marion Sutherland and brother-in-law Orville Sefton. She is survived by her children Mark (Jean Deong), Nancy (Dan) Ferg, Karen (Don) Morrison, and Eric (Therese) and grandchildren Michael Sefton, Adam Sefton, Erica (Ryan) Katchin, Sarah (Greg) Pelechaty, Nathan Ferg, Adrian Ferg, Alex Morrison, Nicole Morrison, Kevin (Victoria Gazayou) Denechezhe, Jordan Denechezhe, Christopher Sefton, Alannah (Brett Klassen) Sefton, Colin Sefton, Tristan Sefton. Her six great-grandchildren are Daylan Katchin, Dane Katchin, Sydney Pelechaty, Kayla Denechezhe, Faron Denechezhe and Blair Denechezhe. She is also survived by her sister Beth Ilott, brother-in-law Norman (Jean) Sefton and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. The celebration of her life will be held at Knox United Church, 451-18th Street, on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Cathcart officiating. A private family interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery.
