Obituary of John Hofmann

John HofmannJohn F. Hofmann of Eugene died April 28 of dementia at age 86. No service is planned.He was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Elyria, Ohio, to Philip and Elfreda Schubert Hofmann. He married Margaret Taylor on June 18, 1950, in Ames, Iowa.He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Oberlin College in 1946, with a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota in 1947 and with a doctorate in statistics from Iowa State University in 1955. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and received an honorable medical discharge. He worked as a manager and consultant analyst for quality control in ballistic missiles and aerospace systems, and as a professor at Humboldt State University.Survivors include his wife; three sons, Philip of Shoreline, Wash., W. Scott of Seattle and Herbert of Keizer; a daughter, Jan Hofmann Marquardt of Eugene; and eight grandchildren.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
