Obituary of Nancy Medland

MEDLAND: Nancy (née Maughan), passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010 at Simpson Manor in Ft. Langley, B.C. Nancy was born in Evenwood, County Durham, England on July 30, 1922. She trained as a nurse and put these skills to good use during WW II in London. She met her husband Harold who was serving overseas in the Canadian Army during that time and they were married in 1945. Nancy came to Canada in 1946 to join Harold after the war. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Brandon General Hospital for many years. In her spare time she liked to knit and read and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially other "English War Brides". Nancy is survived by her sister Eva Murphy of Redcar, England, son Don Medland, daughter Janyce (Grant) Beswitherick, grandsons David (Renee) Beswitherick, Cam (Kelly) Beswitherick, Kyle (Stacey) Medland, Kent (Jamie) Medland. There are seven great-grandchildren Nicole and Talia (David), Dylan and Amber (Cam) Beswitherick, Devon and Wyatt (Kyle) and Cale (Kent) Medland. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins at home and abroad. Nancy was predeceased by her husband Harold, daughter-in-law Denise, and parents Thomas and Ada Maughan. A Celebration of Nancy's life will take place on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon, with Rev. Grant Beswitherick officiating. A family graveside service will take place in the Veterans section of the Brandon Cemetery prior to the Memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
