Obituary of Irene Eva Foster
FOSTER: Mrs. Irene Eva Foster (née Bartley) of Brandon passed away at her residence, Fairview Home, on March 11, 2010 at the age of 98 years. Irene was born September 8, 1911 in the R.M. of Killarney to George and Ethel Bartley. She grew up on the family farm along with three brothers and one sister and attended the local country school. Following her marriage to Art Foster, they resided in Boissevain until moving to Brandon. The family grew to include four sons. Irene began working as a matron for female prisoners at the courthouse and police station. She continued these duties until retiring from the Juvenile Section of the Brandon Jail on September 30, 1976. An apartment at Lawson Lodge was her home until her move to Fairview at the age of 96. Her favorite pastimes were Bingo and playing card games. Surviving are her two sons, Clarence and Wayne (Cathy), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one niece and nephews. Also surviving is her brother Leslie Bartley (Myrtle) of Boissevain. She was predeceased by her husband Art and two sons, Elliott and Vern. The Funeral Service was held on March 16, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. with Mr. Lawrence McInnes, Brockie Donovan Funeral Celebrant, officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were Ron Kuharski, Tim Cooper, Wayne Lindberg, Larry Stone, Troy Thompson and Larry Zoerb. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Irene may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6.
