Obituary of Iva Pearl Aitchison
AITCHISON: Iva Pearl Aitchison (née Davidson) passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the age of 94. Iva was born on December 6, 1915 in Kenton, Manitoba where she took her schooling. She was active in sports, played the organ for the United Church and later worked as a telephone operator for the municipality.
On January 10, 1942, she married David Aitchison of Deloraine, Manitoba and they moved to Calgary. After the war, they settled in Brandon, where they raised their three children, Ken, Diane and Larry. Iva had a 20 year career with Eaton's, retiring in 1980. Their retirement years were filled with travel-trips to visit family, and frequent winter vacations in Hawaii and Victoria, B.C. Golf, gardening, bingo and family get-togethers were a huge part of their lives.
Iva will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family: son Ken (Carole) of Morristown, New Jersey and their children Kent (Tori) of Bethlehem, PA, and Kristen (Mike) of Bethesda, MD; daughter Diane Allum (Barry) and their children Lori, Stacey (Jody), and Brent, all of Brandon; and son Larry (Carol) of Brandon. Nine great- grandchildren hold special memories of Gigi in their hearts - David and Matthew Aitchison; Cameron, Zachary and Brady Wheeden; Katelyn and Tyler Wark; and Jenna and Kiera Chudley. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Betty Aitchison of Winnipeg and several nieces and nephews. Our family is so grateful to have had Mom's loving presence in our lives for such a long time.
Iva was predeceased by her beloved husband David in 1996, by her parents Alex and Agnes Davidson, her brother Douglas and sisters Irene Schnell, Muriel Muller, Dorothy Hunter and Edrie Smith.
A private graveside service took place on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations may be made to one's charity of choice.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
