Obituary of Gladys Pearson
PEARSON: Gladys Caroline Pearson of Rideau Park Personal Care Home, beloved wife of the late Louie Pearson, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the age of 89 years. Gladys was born in Hainsworth, Saskatchewan on July 10, 1920. She moved with her family to Arcola, Saskatchewan at a young age where she attended Pine View School – a one-room school with a class of 40 pupils. Gladys liked school and was a perfect attendee. She enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. Gladys worked as a housewife and homemaker and was an excellent cook and baker. She worked very hard on the farm. Her family, children and grandchildren meant the world to Gladys, and she was very proud of them. She also loved flowers, gardening, baking and cooking. While at Rideau Park Personal Care Home, Gladys loved to help out by folding laundry and dusting. She always helped clean the tables and there was never a dirty cup or glass to be found when mom was around. She helped the staff push the wheelchair clients into the dining room for meals and different activities. The staff at Rideau Park became very attached to Gladys and many thought of her as a mom or grandma. She thought of most of them as her children. She always had a smile for them and wanted to kick up her heels. Some of the residents were always saying, "Your mom was dancing today." Gladys is survived by sons James Hopkie, Rod (Jeanette) Pearson, Bob (Donna) Pearson, daughters Shirley (Dave) Nicol, Doreen Schewchuk, Sharon (Ernie) Johnston, Phyllis (Murray) Frank, Joan (Andy) Ogden and daughter-in-law Louise Hopkie. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Birdie Taylor. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, husband Louie Pearson, son Dale Hopkie, daughter-in-law Dorraine Hopkie, brothers Merril, Bert, Joe and sisters Haddie, Lottie and Olive, son-in-law Frank Schewchuk and grandson-in-law, Jason Machut. A Memorial Service was held at the Rivers United Church on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Interment followed at the Rivers Cemetery. Donations in memory of Gladys may be made to a charity of choice.
TO MOM
How very, very lucky we were
That you were our mother
You opened our minds and our hearts.
You always had the time
To tell us a story or sing us a song.
You always picked us up
When we fell down.
You will always be the most
important lady in our lives.
Your love and guidance will
always be with us.
We wish you could have been
With us longer, but we are so
Grateful for the time we had.
All of us, your friends and family,
Will truly miss you.
Thank you so much
For being our mother
May God care for you
As you did for us.
