Obituary of Archie McPhail

MCPHAIL: Archie McPhail passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, at the age of 90 years. Archie was born on July 13, 1929, and grew up on the family farm east of Forrest, MB. At a young age he started farming on his own in the Zion area, northwest of Brandon, and moved into Brandon, where he resided for the rest of his life. He farmed for over 70 years, having planted his first crop at the age of 17, having worked with his father and brothers up to that point. He steadily added acres, until he was one of the largest farmers in the area. Archie was one of those people who worked very hard, but also took the time to enjoy life and had a great and mischievous sense of humour. He loved to golf, curl, play cards and watch sports on television. Winters in Florida and California, and summers at Clear Lake were something he always looked forward to, and enjoyed. He had many friends, and always kept in touch with them over the years. Archie was predeceased by his wife, Shirley; parents, P.A. (Alex) and Effie McPhail and brothers, Ronald and Malcom. Archie is survived by his son, Alex (Sylvia) and grandchildren, Caroline and KA; daughter, Darlene (George) McPherson; grandson, Mitchell (Kate); great-grandchildren, Norah, William and Emilia and granddaughter, Nicola (Lance) Austin, as well as sister, Donna Agnew and sister-in-law, Edith McPhail. A family graveside service will be held at Humesville Cemetery. Donations in memory of Archie may be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3, or to the Humesville Cemetery, Box 113, Forrest, MB, R0K 0W0.
