Obituary of Verna Shafer

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Noti Church of Christ for Verna C. Shafer of Noti, who died Aug. 30 of cancer. She was 67.She was born Nov. 23, 1943, in Hartshorne, Okla., to Willie and Jessie Campbell Vanderpad. She married Walter Shafer on Aug. 15, 1959, in La Grande. He died Dec. 5, 2003.She was a homemaker.Survivors include a daughter, Melva Ryan of Springfield; two sons, Willie of Halsey and Tim of Noti; a sister, Myrna Wolfe; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.A daughter, Melissa Shafer, died previously.Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens.
