Obituary of Ben Shipp

Ben J. Shipp of Springfield died Sept. 8 of age-related causes. He was 91.He was born March 10, 1920, in Bauxite, Ark., to Thomas and Pearl Taylor Shipp. He married Dollie Francis on Jan. 9, 1941, in Elroy, Ariz. She died in 1989. He married Mildred Bond on April 6, 1991, in Reno, Nev.He served in World War II with the Army. He spent most of his career employed by Kewit & Sons working as a diesel mechanic, master mechanic and job superintendent. He retired in 1983.Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nancy Detlefsen of Sweet Home; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Dollie; daughter JoAnn Jenks in 2007; a granddaughter, Kimberli McCulligan, in 2003; and a grandson, Daric Fox, in 2009.Private burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens.Arrangements by Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Springfield.
