Obituary of Shirley Harriet Thom
Shirley Harriet Thom (nee Livingstone)November 11, 1937 – October 19, 2020It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Shirley at the age of 82. She passed peacefully in the early morning of October 19th, surrounded by family at the home of her daughter, where she had lived in palliative care since July.Shirley was a native of Regina, Saskatchewan where she met and married her high school sweetheart Gerry. Together they had three children, to whom they were both very devoted. Shirley was a stay-at-home Mom and took great delight in the day-to-day care of the children and home, shuffling kids around to sports/ dance/ art classes, and managing the many professional relocations that came with Gerry’s career; which took them to Edmonton, Mississauga, West Vancouver, back to Mississauga, New Jersey, California, back to Regina, Baden (ON), and finally Shirley returned to Mississauga to live close to her daughter’s family. Shirley enjoyed the many travels that she and Gerry took, and loved the vacations to visit family in Saskatchewan and the US. She was the consummate hostess, a talented interior decorator, a stylish fashionista, an adventurous cook, an avid reader, and also dabbled in oil painting, pottery, dollhouse miniatures, and porcelain doll-making. Her many friends, some going back to kindergarten days, will attest to her loyal friendship, sound counsel, positive attitude, keen sense of humour, curiosity, and fun-loving nature.Shirley was the beloved wife and best friend of the late Gerry (Gerald) Thom, devoted Mom to Judy Zinni (Mario), John (Barb), and Jeff. Proud Grandma to grandchildren Marissa and Robert Zinni, and Jessica and Jacqueline Thom; dear sister of Pat Anderson (Gary), and sister-in-law to Paul Weinhold and Judy Livingstone. She was predeceased by her father Harry Livingstone, mother Rose Livingstone (nee Behl), sister Thelma Fry (John), sister Yvonne Weinhold, brother Jimmy, mother-in-law Mary Thom (nee David) and father-in-law John Thom. Shirley is survived by many nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends, all of whom she adored. Shirley’s spirit and presence will be sorely missed by all who knew her.The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness, hard work and care extended by the Personal Support Workers (PSWs), nurses and other health care professionals who provided support to her over the past years, and in particular the last several months.
