Obituary of Desmond Ralph Shaw

Des passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital at the age of 85, while listening to his beloved Classical music. Des battled liver cancer for a few short years and lived vibrantly until his last few weeks in hospital. He will be sorely missed by wife, Eleanor (née Hawkins), daughter Karen Bourgon (Guy) and son Michael (Tina), and his large extended family. Cherished grandfather to Jenny, Jared, Jordan, Jamie, Jorja, Sienna (Julio), Summer, Hunter, Chase, Josh, Logan; loving great grandfather to Jensen. Survived by brothers Ralph (Jocelyne) and Trevor (Arline) and pre-deceased by sister, Pamela Clost (Dalton) and brothers Edward (Irene) and Malcolm.Des was born in Maidenhead, England to Ivy Phyllis Eva (Eggleton) and Ralph Shaw, and immigrated to Ottawa with the family in 1957 after the death of his father. Des was a Registered Industrial and Cost Accountant and was a beloved long-time colleague, Comptroller and Director of Security & Financial Analysis with the Canadian Bank Note Company, Ltd. for over 42 years. Des loved to golf, garden, play bridge and cook for his large family (with much banging of pots & pans…). When not with his family, Des loved to vacation at his home in Myrtle Beach, SC.The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their loving care. In memory of Des, donations may be made to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation.Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 24th, 2020 from 12:00 - 12:45PM and 1:00 - 1:45PM at Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Nepean, followed by the service in the Chapel at 2:00PM. Pursuant to maximum attendance regulations, please pre-register your visit. Entry will be strictly limited to registered visitors attending at their confirmed time-frame only and must follow all guidelines.
