Obituary of Vittorio Conto

On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, Vittorio Conto passed away at home surrounded by his family, at the age of 86. Vittorio is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; Sandra, daughter Anna (John), granddaughter; Laura, Gabriella and Giuliana, brother Alfeo and many nieces, nephews and dear friends spread all over the world.Vittorio was born on November 22, 1933 in Castagnole, Treviso, Italy. As a young man, Vittorio first immigrated to Canada in 1951, returning to settle permanently with his bride in 1958. In 1959, Vittorio and Sandra welcomed their daughter Anna as they further established Toronto as their home. For decades, Vittorio contributed his expertise and craftsmanship as a bricklayer and construction worker. Before retiring, Vittorio served within the janitorial services department of George Brown College for over a decade. Throughout his working career, Vittorio established a reputation for the quality and competency of his work, his tireless, superhuman work ethic and most importantly; his integrity and altruistic spirit. He became a beloved, respected colleague and friend within the St. Clair Ave West Italian enclave and broader Trevisano Nel Mondo Community.Vittorio was a devoted, caring husband and father, a kind and generous father in law and a truly exceptional grandfather. Perhaps the role he cherished the most was being a "Nonno" and he did it so with pure joy and passion. A man of character, his commitment to his family and the Christian values he demonstrated daily, fostered deep bonds and made him a role model to many. Vittorio had a lifelong interest in learning, reading and also enjoyed gardening, cooking and travel. Both at home and on many trips back to his hometown, he ensured his daughter and granddaughters were proud of their heritage and roots.Despite facing much adversity throughout his life, he managed to always be a light of positivity and resilience. His fantastic smile, innate warmth, sense of humor and love of the simple pleasures in life made him a delight to spend time with. With humility and grace, Vittorio, unknowingly, left an indelible mark. Vittorio will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
