Obituary of David George Goliss
Dave was born in Edmonton Alberta, on September 30, 1924. He died 96 years later exactly on his birthday. Dave had full and adventurous life. To pay for school he spent a year up north to help build the Alaskan highway and spent his summers prospecting for gold. After he got his degree in Chemistry, he spent most of his career with Robin Flour working in a lab developing formulas for commercial bakeries. When he retired, he shared his extensive food knowledge in Mexico, Bolivia, Philippines and India. Over his lifetime, he lived in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec. Dave was always learning – he embraced technology, he could tell you almost anything about everything, and worked hard at learning Spanish and French. He liked to get involved in the community and over the years, he was a soccer coach, organized community events, and took on leadership roles that nobody else would do. Dave also loved watching and playing sports. He worked out continually and had a strong passion for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Dave has been described by friends as a true gentleman, mentor, and encourager. He will be missed by his loving family; his wife Velma, his children Robert and Diana, his grandchildren Jennifer, Stephanie and Kimberly and his great granddaughter, Isabella. He will also be missed by his son in law Adrian, and by grandsons in laws Liam and Warren. In light of COVID-19, a small family service was held on October 3 and a celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Institute for the Blind Please take a moment to share a condolence or a memory with the family.
