Obituary of Joan Paterson

Joan Jessie Paterson(nee Fitzpatrick) Passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28th, 2020, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with Covid-19 and other health complications. Born on July 13th, 1934, to Walter and Annie Fitzpatrick in Ottawa (Westboro). Beloved wife of Ronald Paterson for 64 years, loving mother and best friend to Nancy (John) Bobyn, Susan (Darrin) Shewchuk, James (Julie) Paterson; cherished grandmother to Jessica (Lukas) Mundy, Emily (Graham) Creech, Patrick Bobyn (Kathleen), Garrett Shewchuk (Daniela), Alison Shewchuk, Anjelia and Sabrina Panton, and four great-granddaughters. She is also survived by sister Iris Bennett, sister-in-law Frankie Fitzpatrick, brothers-in-law David Paterson (Laurie Lyon) and Dave Hanson, and many nieces and nephews.Joan's love for her family was deep and endearing. She spoke fondly of her parents, brother and three sisters, giving us warm glimpses into her early life. Joan's loyalty, gracious demeanor, love for humanity, kindheartedness and infectious positive nature endeared her to all who knew her. She was admired by all whom she worked with at Bell Canada and Tony Graham Toyota.She was intelligent, well-travelled and well read. Her many hobbies included cheering on her beloved Blue Jays, solving word puzzles and gardening. Joan (Joanie, Mom, Granny), know that you are loved and will be missed. We will always keep a fire burning for you. A private family funeral will be held at Capital Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada.
