Joan SmithSPRINGFIELD — Joan Delores Smith of Springfield died Sept. 18 of cancer. She was 78.A private memorial service is planned at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.She was born June 21, 1933, in Ipswich, S.D., to Gustav and Christina Gugel Job.She married James Smith on Nov. 5, 1952, in Ipswich, S.D. He died Feb. 1, 2008.She graduated from Ipswich High School in 1951. She was a homemaker and worked as a hostess, waitress and cashier.Survivors include three sons, Stephen of Creswell, Allen of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Tommy of Prineville; two daughters, Deann Daves of Springfield and Debbie Cutshall of Anchorage; two brothers, Clarence Job of Bend and Edwin Job of Aberdeen, S.D.; four sisters, Anne Heitz of Aberdeen, Elaine Hornaman of Apache Junction, Ariz., Lila Rose of Mills, Wyo., and Janice Hammrich of Belfair, Wash.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.A son, James Edward Smith, died July 3, 1957.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
