Obituary of Elizabeth Jane House Leblanc
September 24, 2020 my mother, Elizabeth Jane House LeBlanc (née Elliott) died. As far as deaths go, it was a good one; peaceful, not in pain, not alone. But like most of my life with her, I didn’t get to be there. My mother lived with schizophrenia, and she died with lung cancer. Covid 19 kept me from being with her as she died, and mental illness kept me from her much of the time when she was alive. Like sunbeams through the clouds, though, there are many moments to treasure, and treasure them I do. I grieve, but I am soothed by the kindness, compassion, and humanity with which my mother has been treated, in hospitals in Ottawa, and especially, at the May Court Hospice. And I am at a loss for words to describe and give thanks for the tireless, loving support of my family, her siblings, who have cared for my mother so much for so long.Take time today to find the good in a bad situation. Take a deep breath, hug the ones you can, find a smile, and carry on.With love, LeslieJane is survived by her daughter Leslie McFarlane (Graham McFarlane, sons Evan and Finlay); her siblings Judith Elliott (Robert Larouche), Bob Elliott (Jayne), and Deborah Elliott (Jack Kern), as well as nieces and nephews Kinnon Elliott, Adam Elliott (Sarah Mark and children Katie and Harris), Robyn Elliott(Spencer Downey) and Catherine Kern. A graveside service will be held at a later date.Donations in memory of Jane may be made to: Hospice Care Ottawa.
