Obituary of Eva Gearhart

Eva GearhartThe funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene for Eva LaVonia Gearhart of Eugene, who died Sept. 27 of complications of surgery. She was 84. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.She was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Augusta, Kan., to Homer and Sarah Green Frey.She married Ralph Shafer in 1942 in Kansas. He died in 1961. She married Harvey Gearhart on June 28, 1963, in Medford. He died Feb. 7, 1972.She studied nursing in Loma Linda, Calif. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for more than 50 years. She worked at Sacred Heart in Medford, Hearthstone in Medford and Green Valley Care Center in Eugene. She owned Harvey’s Motel in MedfordSurvivors include seven daughters, Mary Tice of Elmira, N.Y., Madeline Halter of Allan, Wash., Linda Ferros of Grants Pass, Deborah Briggs of Colton, Candace Blevins of Medford, Melissa Gearhart of Springfield and Judith Jones of Eugene; three sons, Leslie Shafer of Oak Harbor, Wash., Stephen Shafer of Pasadena, Calif., and Dennis Gearhart of St. Helens; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. A son, Douglas Shafer, died in 1984.Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland.Remembrances to the American Cancer Society.
