Obituary of Margaret Estenson

A Celebration of Life is scheduled 11:00 a.m., Oct. 6, 2011 at Springfield Memorial Gardens for Margaret Carolyn Estenson of Vida who died of age related causes on October 1, 2011. She was 92. She was born to Herman and Elva Landwing at Scotts Mills, Oregon, on November 23, 1918. She graduated from Scotts Mills High School in 1937, graduated from Oregon College of Education, now known as Western Oregon University, and earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Education degrees from the University of Oregon. She worked in the field of education for 40 years, 23 years as a classroom teacher and 17 years as an elementary school principal. Thirty-seven of those years were at McKenzie River Elementary School. She retired from there in 1980. Margaret married LeRoy Estenson on May 16, 1941 and came to Vida to live. LeRoy passed away March 5, 1983. Margaret loved the outdoors and worked to protect nature and the environment. The many camping, hunting, and fishing trips with her husband LeRoy were special to her. She loved animals and always had pets. She enjoyed traveling overseas and in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. She loved playing cards and was in multiple clubs. She had many friends who got together for plays and movies. Margaret was active in her professional activities and her community organizations. She was a member of Vida-McKenzie Neighborhood Watch, McKenzie Home Extension Study Group, Late Bloomers Garden Club, and Vida Community Center. Margaret is survived by nieces and nephews, Carol Carter, Barbara Morton, Michael Landwing, Duane Landwing, Marjorie Ullerich, and many good friends and neighbors.
