Obituary of Lucia Finucci
Lucia Finucci, (nee Pietrantoni), passed away suddenly at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, on Saturday September 5th, 2020 in her 75th year.Beloved wife of Mario for 54 years, loving mom to Maria (Giovanni), Diana (Andre) and Romeo, and caring Nonna to Sophia, Marcus, Olivia, Luca and Julian.Lucia was a kind and loving woman with a generous spirit and a warm and engaging personality. Family was everything to her. She got so much joy from being with her family, and never missed an opportunity to dote on her grandchildren who were the center of her universe. She instilled in us the importance of family values and passed on the many traditions that were so important to her.Lucia was born in Celano, Aquila in Italy to Maddalena and Cesare. She had two sisters, Luigia (Ginetta) and Lina, and a brother Mario. She immigrated to Canada in 1960, at the tender age of sixteen and married her teenage sweetheart in 1965. Lucia and Mario had three children – Maria, Diana and Romeo and raised them in Oakville, Ontario. Her world was turned upside down when she experienced the devastating loss of her son Romeo in 2011.Lucia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was selfless and always took care of others. Lucia had many passions – she loved gardening, and spent many hours planting and caring for her garden. She preserved the fruits of her labor every fall and shared them with her loved ones. Lucia had a love for dancing and music, always being found on the dance floor at any event. She expressed her love by making the most wonderful meals and baked goods from scratch, putting time and love into her cooking. A talented baker, she always made sure that her family celebrated their birthdays with a beautiful birthday cake made by her loving hands. Her rum cake, amaretti, gnocchi, and her famous ‘sugo’ (tomato sauce) were her trademark dishes and were loved by all. Her joy and hospitality were endless, as she welcomed – and fed – anyone who walked through her door.Lucia was predeceased by her parents, her son Romeo and her sister Ginetta. She will be dearly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, her extended family and all who knew her. Rest in Peace.*** Please note: due to current COVID restrictions, only 50 people will be allowed in the funeral home chapel at a time, and all guests will be asked to wear masks.
