Obituary of Fernando Sousa

Dr. Fernando Sousa(October 4, 1932 – August 17, 2020)It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Fernando Duarte Santos Sousa, affectionately known as Nano to his family. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully on August 17, 2020. His family was very important to him. He leaves behind his beloved wife Maria Lina Machado Sousa of 59 years. He was a loving father to Cristina and son-in-law Dale Coffin and an extremely proud grandfather of Matthew and Nicholas (Ali). Born in Nazaré , Portugal, Fernando graduated from the University of Porto medical school in 1959 before immigrating to Canada in 1962. For more than 28 years, he was a respected pathologist based at Peel Memorial Hospital (1970 - 1998) serving the regions of Peel, Halton and Dufferin. His passions in life included tennis and traveling the world with the love of his life, Maria Lina. He also took great pleasure in enjoying fine wines and food with family and friends. However, admiring his grandsons with pride as they grew in life and provided endless moments of pleasure was one of his most favourite things. Our entire family will miss him, as he leaves behind his brother Jess, sister-in-law Nina and many nieces, grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews. Our family would like to thank the staff at Ian Anderson House for their compassionate care in his final days. In In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Fernando Sousa to Ian Anderson House, in Oakville, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
