Kent ChristofersonA celebration of life will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Gerlinger Hall on the University of Oregon campus for Kent W. Christoferson of Eugene, who died Oct. 5 of age-related causes. He was 84.He was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Bemidji, Minn., to Christian and Myrtle Stomner Christoferson. He married Mary Battin in April 1950 in Minneapolis. He married Margaret Stout Mahler in 1977 in Eugene.He served in the U-12 program during World War II and was a chief medical officer with the Navy during the Korean War. He was a resident in ophthalmology at the Mayo Clnic in Rochester, N.Y. He was an ophthalmologist in Eugene from 1956 to 1990.Survivors include two sons, Carl of Portland and Bill of Creswell; three daughters, Julia Christoferson of Bend, Jane Orst of Lake Oswego and Maren Malik of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.A private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji, and a private memorial service with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
