Obituary of Joe Mele

Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by his children, on Tuesday August 11, 2020, at Picton Memorial Hospital. He is pre-deceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Mele, his son, Domenic, his parents, Appolonia and Domenic Mele, and his brother, Peter (Lorrie).He will be greatly missed by his children, Andy (Terri-Lee), and Christina and his grandchildren; Samantha (Ian), Joseph, Joshua, Domenic, Miles, and Anthony. Joe will also be missed by his brother-in-law Manfred, and his sister-in-law Gabe, as well as many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Joe spent his life advocating for and supporting others through his work as a CUPE Representative as well as fundraising and community organizing with The Knights of Columbus. He was a polished negotiator, always looking for a good deal, whether at the bargaining table with the city or at one of the many flea markets or garage sales he frequented. Joe had a big heart, a wicked sense of humour and an enormous capacity for giving. A private service will take place Saturday August 15, 2020. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks you to consider making a donation to Ian Anderson House.
